Coco: the starfish miracle

Coco came to Starfish in March. It was her 2nd birthday and she couldn't sit up. We think that the orphanage swaddled her all day long, restricting her from movement. When we came to Starfish a week after, she could sit up. She was still really serious and was pretty good at entertaining herself. The reason she was abandoned was because she is missing the radius (like a wrist) in her right hand. By the time we left she was being more interactive and if you tried hard you could make her giggle. She would sit on the floor and look at books for hours. She would even flip pages with her right hand! We also taught her how to wave her hand as a greeting. She is famous for going "huh?!" everytime someone comes in or when she wants attention. You always do it back and get rewarded with a big smile. In May we heard that she was a super giggly girl and she was even playing with her toes. Yesterday Amanda (the director) said that when she walked into the room, Coco was standing up in her crib! Talk about miracles. Coco's papers are already in process, so we are just waiting for her to get matched with a family. I hope that someday I will get to see her again to see all of the progress that she has made. To progress this much in 2 months is awesome! You've just got to be amazed at all that Starfish does for these kids (150 of them). Someone adopt her, she's a angel! Just remember that she hates acupuncture!
